Bowie Outdoor Performing Ensemble Awards for 2008

 

This year the Bowie Outdoor Performing Ensemble was honored to be chosen as one of only a handful of high school marching bands to perform in the 82nd Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.  

 

State 5A UIL - 5th place in State 

BOA Super Regionals - 4th Place Finalists

Area D UIL - 2nd in Area - Advancing to State

Region 18 UIL  - Earned Division 1 - Advancing to Area  UIL
 
32nd Annual Westlake Marching Festival - 2nd Place in Preliminaries, Best Auxillary, Best Marching, 2nd Place in Finals
 
16th Annual Capital City Marching Festival - 1st Place in Division, Best Musical Performance Overall, and Best General Effect Overall
 
 

 

Bowie Concert Band Honors for the 2008-2009 School Year

 

Congratulations to Bowie Band’s Wind Ensemble I who were invited to perform at the Welcome Concert for the American Bandmaster Association in College Station March 4th

TSSEC - 2 soloists were recognized, 15 superior ratings were earned.

UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest - Wind Endsembles I, II, III and IV earned all superior ratings

Solo & Ensemble South Zone - 57 soloists and 25 ensembles advancing to state

TMEA 5A - Bowie has 3 All-State musicians

TMEA All-State Symphony Orchestra - 1 musician from Bowie

Region 18 Region Band 33 Bowie musicians qualified

Region 18 Area - 14 students advanced to Area

Region 18 Jazz Ensemble – 6 students earned a spot in this ensemble

  Bowie Concert Band Honors 2007-2008

 

TMEA All State Jazz Band – One trumpeter earned a spot in this band.

 

TMEA All State Concert Band – One bassoonist earned her way in this band.

 

Region 18 Orchestra Results – Six students were selected to participate in this orchestra. 

 

Region 18 Jazz Ensemble – Three students earned spot in this fine ensemble.

 

Region 18 Honor Band 32 Bowie musicians qualified. 

 

Region 18 Solo & Ensemble Contest – Overall we had 84 Solo Superior Medals and 134 Ensemble Superior Medals.  We also have 65 entries that will compete in the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest in May. 

Honor Orchestra of AmericaBowie saw five students earn the honor of this band.

AISD All City Jazz EnsembleA freshman drummer earned this elite honor.

University of Texas Longhorn Jazz Festival - The Bowie Jazz Band saw two of it's soloists earn awards as well as the trumpet section.

UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest - Congratulations to Wind Ensemble 1, 2, 3, and 4 for your superior ratings.

State Solo/Ensemble - Congratulations to the 11 ensembles and 16 individuals who received a superior rating for their performance.

Bowie earns BOA Grand National Finalist!

The James Bowie Outdoor Performing Ensemble earned 12th place in their Semifinals performance at the Bands of America Grand National Championships. This qualified the ensemble to advance to the evening Finals competition along with the other top 12 bands from the 30 bands competing in the Semifinals competition. During the Evening Finals competition, Bowie finished in 12th place

This contest was attended by 92 bands from across the United States including schools from the states of California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

This is the first time that Bowie has competed in the BOA Grand National Championships. Among the bands in the competition, there were approximately 15 bands that were former BOA Grand National Finalists.

Congratulations to the Students, Directors, Staff and Parents for all of the hard work and dedication. Earning the position of Grand National Finalist on the first attempt is a great accomplishment.

Bowie Band finishes in top 30 in BOA Prelim

The James Bowie Outdoor Performing Ensemble competed today in the preliminary round of the Bands of America Grand National Championships held at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Bowie finished in the top 30 which qualified them to advance to the Semifinals - Class Championships on Saturday November 11, 2006.

8th place in State UIL Prelim

The James Bowie Outdoor Performing Ensemble earned an 8th place finish in the preliminaries at the State UIL Marching Band Contest which was attended by 31 of the very best 5A bands from the state of Texas. This qualified them to advance to the evening finals competition where they maintained their position finishing in 8th place.

This 8th place finish in the finals competition represents the highest finish in the history of the school improving from their finish in 2004 when they finished 9th at the State UIL Marching Band Finals.

We also congratulate the Akins Band, our neighbor school, who also advanced to finals finishing in the top 10 bands in the state.

Top Five Finish at Area UIL Competition

The James Bowie Outdoor Performing Ensemble earned a top ten finish during preliminary competition at the UIL Area D Marching Band Contest held at Round Rock ISD Stadium. This qualified the group for the evening finals competition where the Ensemble earned a top five finish. The top five bands advance to the state UIL Marching Band Contest. Advancing to state along with Bowie were Akins, Cedar Park, Churchill and Ronald Reagan. The contest was attended by 28 of the top class 5A bands from across central Texas.

First Division Rating at UIL Music Region 18 Marching Contest

The James Bowie Outdoor Performing Ensemble earned first division with straight ones at the UIL Music Region 18 Marching Contest held at Burger Stadium in Austin, TX. The Bowie Band Boosters also served as hosts for the contest. This qualified the band to advance to the UIL Area D Marching Band Contest.

First Place at Westlake Marching Festival

The James Bowie Outdoor Performing Ensemble earned a top ten finish tying for first place in preliminary competition in the Westlake Marching Festival held at Chaparral Stadium in Austin, Texas. This finish qualified the group to advance to the evening finals competition where the Ensemble finished in first place overall during the finals competition.

Fourth Place at Bands of America Regional Championships

The James Bowie Outdoor Performing Ensemble earned a top ten finish in preliminary competition in the Bands of America Regional Championships held at Maverick Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas at Arlington in Arlington, Texas. This finish qualified the group to advance to the evening finals competition where the Ensemble finished in fourth place overall. The championship was won by LD Bell High School.
