Below you will find information on: band uniforms, Shopping Day, uniform fittings, and uniform care instructions.
- Items marked with an asterisk * can be purchased at Shopping Day on July 30th.
- Items marked SP are to be purchased on your own from source of your choice (student purchase).
Summer Band: summer band practices and after school rehearsals
Shirts: SP
- Band – Plain White t-shirt
- Color Guard – Solid red tank or t-shirt
Shorts (color designated by section): SP
- Flute – red shorts
- Clarinet – blue shorts
- Saxes – green shorts
- Trumpets – red shorts
- Mello – green shorts
- Baritone – blue shorts
- Tuba – black shorts
- Percussion (Pit/Drumline) – black shorts
- Guard – black shorts/leggings
Footwear: SP
- Socks
- Sturdy athletic tie shoes (check your tread and wear)
Pep Band: pep rallies and other special events like parades, march-a-thon, etc

Summer Uniform: early season football games
- Red James Bowie High School OPE polo *
- Black shorts *
- Plain black belt SP
- No-show black socks SP
- Black Vipers shoes *
- Guard has their own summer uniform *
Formal Uniform: late season football games
These uniforms are purchased by the district and are used for 10 years. Please do not alter them in any way.
- Shako (formal marching visor with hat wrap and plume) and hatbox. Note: Front Ensemble and Tuba players do not wear a Shako but will need to have hair clean-cut for gentlemen and away from face and collar for ladies.
- Jacket sleeveless with red sequin “B” insert”
- Dress shirt – gray/white/black with stiff collar and adjustable sleeves
- Bibber – bib style pants with adjustable straps, hem snaps, and stirrups
- Two gauntlets (ceremonial wrist guards)
- Uniform garment bag and hanger to store the above uniform and parts at school
Student to provide:
- Dry fit shirt with Bowie B *
- Compression shorts – black, to hide underwear lines underneath bibber (student to purchase) SP
- Long black socks, up to mid-calf (student to purchase) SP
- Black Viper shoes *
Competition Uniform: competitions and specified football games prior to competitions
The Competition Uniform will be identical to the Formal Uniform with the following exceptions:
- Competition shirt – all stretchy material
- Additional accessories TBD (sashes, etc)
Shopping Day
Shopping Day is a one-day event during which ALL members of the Outdoor Performing Ensemble will order or purchase the items listed below.

July 30, 9am-4pm at Bowie High School
This event is mandatory.
All OPE students and a parent must both attend. If you are unable to make it, please contact shoppingday@bowieband.org ASAP.
Please attend at the following times based on last name*:
- 9:00 – 10:30 am: Last names A to D
- 10:30 am -12:00 pm: Last names E to K
- 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm: Last names L to R
- 2:30 pm – 4:00 pm: Last names S to Z
- *All Color Guard Families – Please plan on meeting at Bowie at 8:30am to enjoy coffee and donuts before attending the first session together.

If you already own a dry fit shirt and compression shorts, please wear them to your fitting. If not, we have loaners.
The Yucca portable in located around the back of the school in the southwest corner of the property. Easiest access is from Wolftrap entrance.

Game Day or Contest Prep
Packing list for the duffle bag:
- Band bracelet (the students know about this)
- Bowie Band water jug (EMPTY. It will get filled at school by Water the Dawgs volunteers)
- Rain gear (always)
- Deodorant (always)
- PLUS one or more of the uniforms listed above

Concert Band Attire – Wind Ensembles I-IV
Formal Concert uniforms are not provided by the band and are the responsibility of the individual student.
Gentlemen:
- Black tuxedo
- White dress shirt
- Black bow tie
- Black formal dress shoes
- Black socks
- Black cummerbund or vest (optional)
Ladies:
- Concert uniform top and palazzo pants (will be ordered online later in the fall)
- Black hose or knee-highs
- Black closed-toe dress shoes (no flip-flops or sandals)
If students choose to wear any jewelry or accessories, they must not be obvious to judges. Hair accessories must match hair color. Any necklaces worn must be of simple design; any earrings must be studs.
